How to Replace a Bad Ignition Coil

If you’re having trouble starting your car, there’s a good chance the ignition coil is bad. This small component helps turn the engine over, and if it’s not working properly, the car won’t start. Here’s how to replace a bad ignition coil:

1. Park your car in a safe place and turn off all the lights.
2. Disconnect the battery cable.
3. Remove the right front wheel.
4. Remove the ignition coil cover by pushing down on one side and pulling it off of the cylinder headlight housing. You may need to use a small screwdriver to pry it off from behind.
5. Locate and remove the old ignition coil by gently unscrewing it from its mountings on the housing and wires connected to it. Be sure not to lose any of these parts!
6.Install the new ignition coil by tightening it onto its mountings and wires with a Phillips screwdriver or similar tool. Reinstall the cover by pushing it back into position and fitting it around the cylinder headlight housing using screws that were removed in step 4

If your car has a bad ignition coil, you may experience problems with starting the engine. There are several ways to test for a bad ignition coil, so if you’re experiencing problems starting your car, take a look at these tips to see which one might work best for you.
